The service
One electrician, every type of job
Gary Linehan has been working as an electrician for 20 years, starting at 17 and building Linehan Mechanical & Electrical into a team that scales up for bigger projects while still taking on small domestic jobs. That range matters: you don't need to find a different contractor for a rewire, a new fuseboard, outdoor lighting and a commercial LV panel board.
Linehan Electrical is a NICEIC Approved Contractor, which means the work is assessed against the UK wiring regulations (BS 7671) by an independent body. The company carries £10 million public liability and £10 million employers' liability insurance, which matters on sites with other trades present or in occupied homes. This cover applies across every type of job, whether it's a small domestic repair or a large commercial installation.
Every job is quoted before work starts. Smaller jobs are usually quoted from photos sent over by phone or email, which saves a wasted visit. Larger jobs, where the scope needs to be seen in person, get a site visit first. Quotes are free either way.
Clients range from homeowners needing a socket moved to commercial and domestic property owners managing larger-scale electrical installations. The team flexes in size depending on the job, so a single rewire and a multi-unit commercial fit-out both get the right number of hands on site. This range is built on 20 years of hands-on experience, starting with small domestic jobs and growing to cover large commercial and industrial installations.

Why mixing contractors causes problems
Using different electricians for different jobs around the same property often creates more issues than it solves.
Inconsistent standards
Different contractors work to different levels of care, and nobody takes overall responsibility for the property's wiring as a whole.
No single point of accountability
If something goes wrong later, it's harder to work out which contractor's work caused it.
Circuits that don't talk to each other
Extensions, new circuits and upgrades done piecemeal can clash with existing wiring if nobody has the full picture.
Wasted call-outs
Every new contractor needs to assess the property from scratch, which costs time and sometimes money.
Paperwork gaps
Certificates for different jobs end up scattered or missing, which causes problems at sale or re-mortgage.
Common mistakes we see
- ×Hiring whoever is cheapest for each individual job without checking accreditation
- ×Not asking for a written quote before work starts
- ×Assuming all electrical work is treated the same under Part P
- ×Skipping testing and certification to save a small amount of money
- ×Not keeping certificates and guarantees together for future reference

In detail
What's covered under all types of electrical work
This covers the full range of jobs Linehan Electrical takes on, from a single faulty socket through to large commercial installations.
Domestic jobs
Day-to-day domestic work includes socket and switch replacements, lighting circuits, consumer unit upgrades, rewires, outdoor lighting and fault finding. These jobs are usually quoted from photos and can often be completed in a single visit.
Materials used match current regulations: RCBO-protected consumer units, correctly rated cable for the circuit length and load, and fittings suited to the room: for example, IP-rated fittings in bathrooms.
Commercial and industrial work
On the commercial side, this stretches to LV panel board installation and large-scale fit-outs in warehouses and commercial units. These jobs need a site visit, a full scope of works, and usually a 10% deposit before work begins.
Commercial installations have to account for higher loads, three-phase supplies in many cases, and coordination with other trades on site, which is where the £10m liability cover and ability to scale the team up matters.
Methods and standards
All work follows BS 7671, the UK wiring regulations, and is signed off through NICEIC's inspection and testing framework. That includes continuity, insulation resistance and earth fault loop impedance testing as standard before a circuit is energised.
Part P of the Building Regulations covers notifiable domestic electrical work: new circuits, consumer unit changes and work in kitchens or bathrooms generally fall under this, and certification is provided accordingly.
Variations by property type
A one-bed flat and a large warehouse need very different approaches even though the underlying regulations are the same. Flats and houses usually need single-phase work with domestic consumer units; larger commercial sites often need three-phase distribution boards and LV panel boards.
New-build properties bring their own issues: snagging, incorrectly wired circuits, or missing switches are common, and these get picked up and corrected as part of a wider job.
When to call
If you're not sure whether a job counts as 'electrical work', a flickering light, a tripping breaker, a socket that's gone dead, a new extension needing wiring, it's worth a call. The phone line is answered 24 hours, so you're never stuck not knowing who to contact.
For anything urgent out of hours, call and explain the situation; no fixed attendance time is promised, but the line is answered around the clock.
